The purpose of assessment is to not show what you didn't learn, however rather it is to show me what I need to discuss in further detail with examples before we continue as a class. If you do not know or understand what's going on right now, the chances of you being able to understand what will happen in the future will be slim. Therefore I will give two forms of assessment: formative and summative. The goal(s) behind formative assessments is to monitor your understanding of the material and allow me to provide ongoing feedback to you to make sure you understand the material. It will also help me identify strengths and weaknesses and target areas that require more work. Lastly, summative assessments evaluate student learning at the end of a chapter or unit by comparing it to a particular standard. Usually summative assessments are mid-terms, a final project, or a paper.
